“The most genuinely, completely political theater I have ever seen.”

DECEMBER 17-20, 7pm

AnomalousCo premieres two powerfully urgent dramas at New York’s American Theatre of Actors — Stiffler by award-winning Kosovan playwright, Doruntina Basha (US premiere), and Bounds by award-winning Italian playwright, Tino Caspanello (New York premiere)  — in an evening of activist theatre directed by Kathryn Mederos Syssoyeva, from December 17–20.

STIFFLER

A searing work of absurdist-macabre, Stiffler takes a hard look at femicide, sex work, and the systemic neglect of women.

As the Epstein revelations and the Pelicot trial lay bare a culture that repeatedly exploits and abandons women, Stiffler lands with fierce, stark relevance—and a clear cry for justice.

BOUNDS

Poetic and imagistic, Bounds speaks to the vulnerability of migrant women, reminding us that when one of us is taken, all of us are complicit — and asks: what does it take to stand up for the stranger?

As the US slides further into the brutal migrant policies of the Trump administration, with kidnappings and rendition, a foreign concentration camp, militarization of cities, mass roundups and deportations, "Bounds" is a parable for our own present moment.

Since relocating to NYC in the spring of 2022, AnomalousCo has raised over $15,000 for refugee humanitarian aid in Ukraine and at our own southern border; collectively engaged in local activism in support of #IranRevolution2022; and produced a video in solidarity with the Iranian Women’s Uprising that went viral with more than one million views. We have created multiple anti-war performance iterations, collaborated with international women peace-builder organizations, and built a thriving, ever-expanding artistic community of multilingual, multi-ethnic immigrant and refugee women theatre-makers and their allies here in New York City. Our ensemble continues to create socially charged, justice-driven work that amplifies marginalized voices and transforms urgent global issues into powerful collective art.
